The Selection of Substrate and Formula Design Principles for Baby Wipes and Their Role in Ensuring Safety for Infants' Skin
Author:
Through strict control of the base material, formula, and production process, baby care wipes provide safe and gentle daily cleaning care for infants and young children.
As a daily care product that comes into direct contact with the delicate skin of infants, the selection of substrate and formula design for baby wipes directly affects the product's safety and user comfort. The substrate for wipes is typically made of spunlace nonwoven fabric, a blend of viscose and polyester fibers in a specific ratio. Viscose fibers, derived from natural wood pulp, possess excellent absorbency and softness, offering a gentle touch; polyester fibers provide the necessary wet strength and tensile properties, ensuring durability during wiping. High-quality baby wipes should have substrates that pass skin irritation tests, are free of fluorescent agents and formaldehyde release, and have a slightly acidic pH value, matching the natural acid-base environment of infants' skin. The basis weight, thickness, and embossing process of the substrate also affect the user experience; a suitable basis weight ensures sufficient moisture content, while a soft embossed surface increases cleaning effectiveness while reducing friction and irritation.
The formula design of baby wipes follows the basic principle of being gentle and non-irritating. The formula contains over 95% purified water, which undergoes multi-stage filtration and ultraviolet sterilization to ensure that microbial indicators meet standard requirements. Moisturizing ingredients such as propylene glycol and glycerin maintain the wipes' moisture during use, hydrating baby's skin and preventing moisture loss. Plant extracts such as aloe vera, chamomile, and witch hazel have soothing and anti-inflammatory effects, reducing redness and irritation in the diaper area. The preservative system uses mild, food-grade preservatives such as phenoxyethanol and potassium sorbate, ensuring product shelf life while minimizing the risk of allergies. Baby wipes are free of irritating ingredients such as alcohol, fragrances, and pigments. All raw materials undergo skin patch tests and eye irritation tests to ensure safety for infants and young children.
Quality control of baby care wipes is integrated throughout the entire production process and is a crucial aspect of ensuring product safety. The production workshop meets a 100,000-level cleanroom standard, with filtered air and operators strictly adhering to hygiene regulations. Non-woven fabrics undergo ultraviolet sterilization before entering the production line, and the prepared liquid is homogenized and emulsified before being filtered through a precision filtration system to remove impurities. Folding, liquid addition, cutting, and packaging processes are completed continuously on an automated production line, reducing the risk of contamination from human contact. Packaging uses airtight plastic boxes or resealable bags to prevent moisture evaporation and bacterial contamination after opening. Each batch of products undergoes microbial testing, pH testing, fluorescent substance testing, and skin irritation testing before leaving the factory. Through strict control of the base material, formula, and production process, baby care wipes provide safe and gentle daily cleaning care for infants and young children.
